Dunlap Law is excited to announce the newest member of our team, summer intern Camryn Travis.

Girls For a Change

Camryn Travis - Girls For A Change

At a B-Corp event in October, 2017, Tricia Dunlap listened as Angela Patton, Executive Director of Girls For A Change, urged Richmond-area B-Corps to help her make “black girls ready for the world, and the world ready for black girls.”  Tricia reached out to Angela and asked how Dunlap Law could support GFAC’s mission.  The result?  A win-win.  Angela connected Tricia to Camryn, a GFAC alumna, and Tricia knew right away that both Dunlap Law and Camryn would benefit from a paid summer internship.

GFAC is a nonprofit youth development organization formed in 2000 to empower and lift up girls of color so they can visualize their immense potential.  When Camryn was nine years old, she got involved with GFAC  through Camp Diva, GFAC’s summer program for Richmond-area girls.

When asked to describe her experience she said, “I love Girls For A Change! I started participating in GFAC programs when I was in elementary school. My parents were acutely aware that there were not many students who looked like me in my school or my social circle, and Girls For A Change served as an avenue for me to make connections with other black girls. Seeing their accomplishments and dreams made me realize that I too could be an accomplished black woman.”

Camryn is now a rising junior at the University of Richmond, double majoring in Political Science and Spanish.  Born and raised right here in Richmond, Camryn is passionate about helping her community. It’s been about ten years since she first attended Camp Diva, and Camryn still actively participates in Girls For A Change as a “Girl Ambassador” —   a program that connects young black women with internships in various professions of their interest.  Camryn is enthusiastic to pursue a career in law and potentially manage her own firm one day.

Dunlap Law is lucky to have Camryn’s help with marketing, documenting systems, and managing essential back-office functions.  Tricia is also creating meaningful opportunities for Camryn to interact with clients, attend hearings, and meet some of the many amazing people Tricia is fortunate to know.   In August, Camryn is off to Bilbao, Spain for a semester abroad.  Tricia is already hoping Camryn will be willing to work part-time once she is back stateside in December.
